This course includes:
Increasing awareness of mental health issues and the stigma and barriers faced by mental health service users. How to recruit and retain volunteers with mental health needs and make the workplace a welcoming and supportive environment that offers volunteers with mental health issues a positive and fulfilling experience.
The course will also cover aspects of good practice in volunteer management by examining how to supervise and train volunteers with mental health needs and value their involvement.
Who should attend?
This is a highly participative, easy-to-follow guided course for anyone working with volunteers who already is, or would like to be, involving volunteers with mental health needs in their organisation.
About the trainers
Aloyse Raptopoulos is a service user trainer and consultant in Mental Health who regularly trains Trust staff (South London & Maudsley) as well as third year student nurses, at King's College and London South Bank University. She also works on a free-lance basis with national voluntary organisations such as Mental Health Media and Rethink, promoting user involvement and focus. Additionally, Aloyse is involved in 'Capital Volunteering', a pan-London community project, facilitating social inclusion.
Diana Young is Volunteer Centre Camden’s Supported Volunteering Coordinator and has worked in the mental health field, both in the statutory and voluntary sectors, for about fifteen years. Recently, Diana has worked in supported employment, assisting adults with mental health issues into paid jobs, volunteer placements and college courses.
The course costs £30 for members of Volunteer Centre Camden and £50 for non-members.
Up to three free places (one per organisation) are reserved upon receipt of a returnable deposit of £30.00 for un-funded organisations. Organisations wishing to apply for a free place should make this clear when booking. Deposits will be returned to all participants attending training.
