Camden Vibrant Communities
Vibrant Communities is a three-year project designed to benefit the borough of Camden
by bringing together its communities and increasing the number of people from all sections
of the community involved in volunteering. It is one of five pilot projects funded by the
Home Office Active Communities Unit to demonstrate innovative partnership approaches to
extending community participation.
Vibrant Communities is led by a partnership involving:
Voluntary Action Camden (VAC is the voluntary services council for
Camden and has an innovative new website to assist voluntary organisations
that operate in the borough) www.vac.org.uk
Camden Volunteer Bureau (CVB is the volunteer development agency for Camden) www.camdenvb.org.uk
Camden & Islington Community Health Services

The major aims of the partnership include:
More and better quality opportunities for
volunteering
Community involvement by a more diverse
range of people
Greater use of new
information/communication technologies and the media
Greater corporate community involvement
The work of Vibrant Communities is
carried out by a wider group that includes the five partners plus Camden
Federation of Tenants & Residents, Camden Law Centre and Camden Racial
Equality Council
The work programme includes:
A project to support residents groups
play a full part in local regeneration initiatives
based at Camden Federation of Tenants and Residents Associations (contact Lisa Spall

A citizens project to enable people from
minority ethnic communities to access their rights, based at Camden
Law Centre (contact Patricia Alert on 020 7267 6672)
A scheme to support people from a variety
of cultural backgrounds to volunteer in the National Health Service
and bring about institutional change
A brokerage service stimulating links
between businesses and the voluntary sector schemes aimed at creating
mutually beneficial partnerships. This may involve such in sharing of resources such as training
and equipment, “in-kind support”, sponsorship or the development

An innovative website with on-line search facility for volunteer
opportunities and volunteers information services such as chat room

building initiatives to enable voluntary organisations in Camden to
